Thank You SVDP Society!

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing very well and are staying safe. For todays re we learnt more about St Vincent de Paul but this time it's about the society. For example the young vinnies, young vinnies are a big part on that society and everyone in it aswell. For our activity today what we had to do was make an email and send it to the St Vincent de Paul society here in Christchurch and thank them for everything they do for a lot of people and write down at least one thing that we could do to help them out for example: donating, praying, volunteering etc. But before that we had to also fill in some boxes and put pictures in them of what the Svdp society does, so if it says the young vinnies visit rest homes then you would put a picture of that

Something I enjoyed was getting to write the email to them cause I really do appreciate everything that they do for everyone.

Here is my email that I sent:

If you would like to you can also email them and thank them as well, here is their email admin@svdpchch.co.nz (this is the Christchurch one).

Hope you enjoyed and stay safe!

St Vincent De Paul

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend at home, sadly we are still in lock down so that means more home learning yay. But besides that for re we had to learn about St Vincent De Paul andlearn about his life, so we read some articles explaining different things about him and also some videos showing what he did throughout his life. We also did a morning prayer before we learnt about St Vincent De Paul. But besides that our activity was to go on google maps and try and find the place where St Vincent De Paul lived, (which was in Pouy in France). Then our teacher linked a site where it showed where he lived like his house basically. A fun fact about St Vincent De Paul is that in the first 20 years of his life he seeked fame and wealth and he did get fame for his dedication to the poor, another fact is that he got captured by pirates and he had to be a slave for two years. We had to add some pictures so here is my little collage of photos of St Vincent De Paul's cradle and where in France he lives:

Here is a little Prayer to ask God about how we can be more like St Vincent De Paul:
Dear God, Please help us sinners to help others for example helping out the sick and poor and please lead us to the right path and help us to see the good in other people. Help us to be caring, respectful, genourous and just to be good in general. Whenever we see someone hurting another help us to have the courage to stand up for them even if they are a stranger. In everything that we do help us to be a better person to ourselves and everyone around us. Thank you Lord for everything you have done for us and help us to be just like you and put the goodness out of ourselves onto other people.
Amen.

Stay safe everyone!

How we can live like Sister Aroha?

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all doing well with this lock down. For re we have been learning about someone named Sister Aroha, she used to live here New Zealand and then she left at the year 1982 and she abandoned her family to be a nun in Sri Lanka and to help out the sick children there. Sister Aroha is a great role model to follow. For our activity we had to make a DLO explaining different ways we could be like Sister Aroha or Live our lives like her. I decided to do a google drawing so like a poster. Something I enjoyed was getting to learn more about her and getting to share out what she sacrificed to help out the little kids.

Here is my poster explaining different ways we could be like Sister Aroha:

Hope you enjoyed and Stay safe!

Biodiversity l Understanding tasks

In my last post I told you guys that for topic that we have been learning about biodiversity and for reading we have been doing some reading activities around biodiversity. And if you forgot what biodiversity is well it is about the different types of animals and insects helping out our planet to be a better place for example we need bees for our pollination cause if we didn't have them then we wouldn't have any fruit cause our flowers need to be pollinated first before the fruit actually starts to grow. But besides that as you know my last post was my remembering task and we only had to do one of those and for our understanding tasks we had to do two of them. I decided to do the instructions on how to make a terrarium, and a terrarium is like a mini garden inside a big glass container. For my second task I decided to make a poster about what is an ecosystem.

Something I enjoyed was getting to learn new things like I didn't know what a terrarium but now I do so I could make my own one. Something I found difficult was figuring out how I should make my poster and if I should do it on a device or paper and thinking how creative I was going to be.

Here is my first understanding task:

And here is my second understanding task:

Stay safe everyone!

Urban Legend Article

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well cause we are now in lock down sadly so now we have to do online school. But besides that for writing we have been learning about how to write an article and first the our teacher made us look through a slideshow teaching us what an article is so what an article is, is when you have a topic and you make a headline so whoever is reading your article when get hooked into it, and then you have byline which is basically answering the question "who wrote the article?". Then Captions under pictures explaining what is happening in the picture. And then adding some images to interact with the reader. A really good example is a news letter article. But besides that we got to choose our own topic and I decided to do an Urban legends Article.

Here it is:

Something I enjoyed was getting to read some urban legends and some of them did scare me. Something I found difficult was trying to set out my article cause I found it really difficult but then I searched up some examples and it helped me out.

Stay safe!

Orana wildlife park trip

Yesterday room 5 & 6 when on a trip to the orana wildlife park. My dad decided to help with the transport. And the reason we went there is because we have been learning about biodiversity and different ecosystems and species. Once we got to Orana park we got split into two different groups, group 1 was room 5 and group 2 was room 6. First we had to eat our morning tea cause we were going to be walking around for like 4-5 hours and then we would have lunch. There were also two instructors which were Sarah and Bethany. Since we had to get split up in two groups we had to get our own instructor, we got to have Sarah. First she told us where the toilets were and etc, we went to go and visit the first animal which were the frogs. There were small ones and big ones, some of them jumped some didn't. Then after we got to visit a lot of more animals like lions, tigers, Tasmanian devils and many more.

Here are some photos of the animals we visited in the 1st part:

We also went to a thing called zoo school and they showed us different models of animals and a lions skull.

In the second half we got to feed giraffes and see gorillas and different types of monkeys and Apes, and obviously a whole lot more. Something I enjoyed was getting to see reptiles, insects and animals that I have never seen before and to learn more about them. I would really like to go there again because Sarah said that there are more than 1,000 animals there!

Here are some of the animals we visited in the 2nd part:

It was really fun!

How do dogs "see" with their noses?

Kia Ora everyone! For writing we have been learning about Information reports. And we have based it on how dogs can "see" with their noses. You must be thinking, yeah how do they see with their noses? Well it's obviously not literally but their nose is a really great feature in a dogs body. But besides that what we had to do first was watch a video explaining how dogs nose works and then we got put into buddies and we had to go and answer some questions about the video. I'll give you guys a quick fact, apparently dogs have 300 million smell cells and us humans only have 5 million smell cells. But after we answered the questions we had to make a dog planner planning out what we were going to write for our good copy. We also got to do the good copy with a buddy. We had to write an introduction, 3 main paragraphs and a summary paragraph for our good copy.

Something I enjoyed was getting to work with my buddy and putting both of our ideas together. Something I found difficult was thinking of what to write because both of our ideas kept running out slowly.

Here is our writing:

How do Dogs “see” with their noses?

Dogs have many different kinds of features but their nose is the best feature of all. Other species might have a great sense of smell but a dog’s sense of smell is quite different to others.

If you ever wonder how a dog’s nose works, inside there are two separate parts. One for smelling and the other for breathing. Their noses have many features that help it work. The part of their brain that helps them identify scents and smells is smarter and stronger than a human’s brain. Dogs can help us humans cause they can also tell if you have cancer or any type of sickness which is why they are better at smelling than us.

The dog's brain has a good memory. Once they smell something it gets stuck in their head, and if they ever come across it again they will know what it is. For example: If a car was in a parking lot and it just left then a dog will know that a car has been there cause they know the smell of a car, another example is that if a person was sitting next to a tree and just left then a dog came by then they will know that there has been a person there cause they know a smell of a person. Dogs are really smart when it comes to smelling different types of things.

A dog’s nose can’t only smell, but can also sense different types of emotions and things. An example of this is when someone is feeling quite emotional and upset. A dog can sense their emotions through their smell by feeling and being familiar with the smell to know how someone is feeling. They can also identify an object or a thing by being able to smell it once and remembering the scent of it.

The amount of help they give through their noses for everyone and themselves is truly wonderful. Did you know that dogs have 300 million smell cells and humans only have 5 million? Dogs have many other amazing features about their noses and also different body parts too but the nose is definitely a feature that can help us and others.

Hope you enjoyed!
