Thank You SVDP Society!

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing very well and are staying safe. For todays re we learnt more about St Vincent de Paul but this time it's about the society. For example the young vinnies, young vinnies are a big part on that society and everyone in it aswell. For our activity today what we had to do was make an email and send it to the St Vincent de Paul society here in Christchurch and thank them for everything they do for a lot of people and write down at least one thing that we could do to help them out for example: donating, praying, volunteering etc. But before that we had to also fill in some boxes and put pictures in them of what the Svdp society does, so if it says the young vinnies visit rest homes then you would put a picture of that

Something I enjoyed was getting to write the email to them cause I really do appreciate everything that they do for everyone.

Here is my email that I sent:

If you would like to you can also email them and thank them as well, here is their email admin@svdpchch.co.nz (this is the Christchurch one).

Hope you enjoyed and stay safe!

St Vincent De Paul

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend at home, sadly we are still in lock down so that means more home learning yay. But besides that for re we had to learn about St Vincent De Paul andlearn about his life, so we read some articles explaining different things about him and also some videos showing what he did throughout his life. We also did a morning prayer before we learnt about St Vincent De Paul. But besides that our activity was to go on google maps and try and find the place where St Vincent De Paul lived, (which was in Pouy in France). Then our teacher linked a site where it showed where he lived like his house basically. A fun fact about St Vincent De Paul is that in the first 20 years of his life he seeked fame and wealth and he did get fame for his dedication to the poor, another fact is that he got captured by pirates and he had to be a slave for two years. We had to add some pictures so here is my little collage of photos of St Vincent De Paul's cradle and where in France he lives:

Here is a little Prayer to ask God about how we can be more like St Vincent De Paul:
Dear God, Please help us sinners to help others for example helping out the sick and poor and please lead us to the right path and help us to see the good in other people. Help us to be caring, respectful, genourous and just to be good in general. Whenever we see someone hurting another help us to have the courage to stand up for them even if they are a stranger. In everything that we do help us to be a better person to ourselves and everyone around us. Thank you Lord for everything you have done for us and help us to be just like you and put the goodness out of ourselves onto other people.
Amen.

Stay safe everyone!

How we can live like Sister Aroha?

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all doing well with this lock down. For re we have been learning about someone named Sister Aroha, she used to live here New Zealand and then she left at the year 1982 and she abandoned her family to be a nun in Sri Lanka and to help out the sick children there. Sister Aroha is a great role model to follow. For our activity we had to make a DLO explaining different ways we could be like Sister Aroha or Live our lives like her. I decided to do a google drawing so like a poster. Something I enjoyed was getting to learn more about her and getting to share out what she sacrificed to help out the little kids.

Here is my poster explaining different ways we could be like Sister Aroha:

Hope you enjoyed and Stay safe!

Biodiversity l Understanding tasks

In my last post I told you guys that for topic that we have been learning about biodiversity and for reading we have been doing some reading activities around biodiversity. And if you forgot what biodiversity is well it is about the different types of animals and insects helping out our planet to be a better place for example we need bees for our pollination cause if we didn't have them then we wouldn't have any fruit cause our flowers need to be pollinated first before the fruit actually starts to grow. But besides that as you know my last post was my remembering task and we only had to do one of those and for our understanding tasks we had to do two of them. I decided to do the instructions on how to make a terrarium, and a terrarium is like a mini garden inside a big glass container. For my second task I decided to make a poster about what is an ecosystem.

Something I enjoyed was getting to learn new things like I didn't know what a terrarium but now I do so I could make my own one. Something I found difficult was figuring out how I should make my poster and if I should do it on a device or paper and thinking how creative I was going to be.

Here is my first understanding task:

And here is my second understanding task:

Stay safe everyone!

Urban Legend Article

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well cause we are now in lock down sadly so now we have to do online school. But besides that for writing we have been learning about how to write an article and first the our teacher made us look through a slideshow teaching us what an article is so what an article is, is when you have a topic and you make a headline so whoever is reading your article when get hooked into it, and then you have byline which is basically answering the question "who wrote the article?". Then Captions under pictures explaining what is happening in the picture. And then adding some images to interact with the reader. A really good example is a news letter article. But besides that we got to choose our own topic and I decided to do an Urban legends Article.

Here it is:

Something I enjoyed was getting to read some urban legends and some of them did scare me. Something I found difficult was trying to set out my article cause I found it really difficult but then I searched up some examples and it helped me out.

Stay safe!

Orana wildlife park trip

Yesterday room 5 & 6 when on a trip to the orana wildlife park. My dad decided to help with the transport. And the reason we went there is because we have been learning about biodiversity and different ecosystems and species. Once we got to Orana park we got split into two different groups, group 1 was room 5 and group 2 was room 6. First we had to eat our morning tea cause we were going to be walking around for like 4-5 hours and then we would have lunch. There were also two instructors which were Sarah and Bethany. Since we had to get split up in two groups we had to get our own instructor, we got to have Sarah. First she told us where the toilets were and etc, we went to go and visit the first animal which were the frogs. There were small ones and big ones, some of them jumped some didn't. Then after we got to visit a lot of more animals like lions, tigers, Tasmanian devils and many more.

Here are some photos of the animals we visited in the 1st part:

We also went to a thing called zoo school and they showed us different models of animals and a lions skull.

In the second half we got to feed giraffes and see gorillas and different types of monkeys and Apes, and obviously a whole lot more. Something I enjoyed was getting to see reptiles, insects and animals that I have never seen before and to learn more about them. I would really like to go there again because Sarah said that there are more than 1,000 animals there!

Here are some of the animals we visited in the 2nd part:

It was really fun!

How do dogs "see" with their noses?

Kia Ora everyone! For writing we have been learning about Information reports. And we have based it on how dogs can "see" with their noses. You must be thinking, yeah how do they see with their noses? Well it's obviously not literally but their nose is a really great feature in a dogs body. But besides that what we had to do first was watch a video explaining how dogs nose works and then we got put into buddies and we had to go and answer some questions about the video. I'll give you guys a quick fact, apparently dogs have 300 million smell cells and us humans only have 5 million smell cells. But after we answered the questions we had to make a dog planner planning out what we were going to write for our good copy. We also got to do the good copy with a buddy. We had to write an introduction, 3 main paragraphs and a summary paragraph for our good copy.

Something I enjoyed was getting to work with my buddy and putting both of our ideas together. Something I found difficult was thinking of what to write because both of our ideas kept running out slowly.

Here is our writing:

How do Dogs “see” with their noses?

Dogs have many different kinds of features but their nose is the best feature of all. Other species might have a great sense of smell but a dog’s sense of smell is quite different to others.

If you ever wonder how a dog’s nose works, inside there are two separate parts. One for smelling and the other for breathing. Their noses have many features that help it work. The part of their brain that helps them identify scents and smells is smarter and stronger than a human’s brain. Dogs can help us humans cause they can also tell if you have cancer or any type of sickness which is why they are better at smelling than us.

The dog's brain has a good memory. Once they smell something it gets stuck in their head, and if they ever come across it again they will know what it is. For example: If a car was in a parking lot and it just left then a dog will know that a car has been there cause they know the smell of a car, another example is that if a person was sitting next to a tree and just left then a dog came by then they will know that there has been a person there cause they know a smell of a person. Dogs are really smart when it comes to smelling different types of things.

A dog’s nose can’t only smell, but can also sense different types of emotions and things. An example of this is when someone is feeling quite emotional and upset. A dog can sense their emotions through their smell by feeling and being familiar with the smell to know how someone is feeling. They can also identify an object or a thing by being able to smell it once and remembering the scent of it.

The amount of help they give through their noses for everyone and themselves is truly wonderful. Did you know that dogs have 300 million smell cells and humans only have 5 million? Dogs have many other amazing features about their noses and also different body parts too but the nose is definitely a feature that can help us and others.

Hope you enjoyed!

Biodiversity l Remembering task

For topic we have been learning about biodiversity and if you don't know what biodiversity it is, well it is about different animals and insects helping out with our plants and our lives, for example we need bees for our pollination in our plants so we can grow our fruit. But besides that our teacher has decided room 5 to do some reading activities around biodiversity. So for week 2 and 3 we had to finish off 1 remembering task and two understanding tasks and then post it. For the remembering task I decided to make a diagram explaining biodiversity, I also added two examples of different Insects and I added one way we could help increase biodiversity but of course there are many different ways that we could increase biodiversity.

Something I enjoyed was getting to learn more about biodiversity and getting to share it to you guys. Something I found difficult was figuring out different insects or animals that I could use for my examples but I ended up just picking bees and butterflies.

Here is my diagram:

I'm sorry if you can't read it, so I'll write down what it says.
Biodiversity is Important for animals, plants, humans and the earth itself. Scientists measure biodiversity by genetics, species and ecosystem levels. Global biodiversity is dropping down and one of those reasons are anthropocentric, which is caused by humans.
For example:
We need bees for the pollination of plants so we can get the fruit that we grow. Butterflies are plant pollinators and they eat different Insects that could harm certain plants. Butterflies also help ecologists, ecologists use butterflies so they can study loss of habitat and climate change. A way that we could help increase biodiversity is making space for different species and growing plants for certain Insects and animals.

Hope you enjoyed!

Dragon Writing

Hello everyone! At the start of this term we started learning about different types of sentences to use in our descriptive writing for writing. There were 6 different sentence types, there was, DE:DE, Noun W, Some;Others, P,PS,A, are all examples of and 2A etc, there was also another two that we could add which was connective sand generalizes. At the start we had to pick a color dragon and I picked Red and we had to make a report using the different types of sentences. Some people went in buddies but I just decided to go by myself. And then after we got to make our own dragons with like different superpowers and different looks and names. And of course we had to write about it.

We also had to use subtitles for each paragraph we wrote about which was Appearance, Habitat and Amazing facts. We also had to add a question, for example "Did you know that dragons can fly?". I decided to name my dragon the mystical fire dragon. Something that I enjoyed was getting to make my own dragon and adding the different features that it can do. Something I found difficult was trying to think of ideas that I could add to my report and different types of superpowers, and just trying to make it interesting in general. I honestly really enjoyed this writing and now I can add many different types of sentences in my writing.

Mystical Fire Dragons

Mystical fire dragons are very speedy, slothful dragons: they like to destroy people’s

property and they try to steal their gems and stones if they even have any. These

unique creatures have been spotted by explorers that have been searching for them

since 1970. Since these dragons are super fast the explorers didn’t get time to actually

take a picture of them so they could show the whole world that they have seen the mystical

fire dragons.

Appearance

Most of the mystical fire dragons have rapid red legs that make their veins pop out,

5 sharp horns on the back of their back, 8 spikes on their pointed tail, and their wings

are nice and extensive and powerful. The mystical fire dragons, which have toxic fiery

breath, are covered with spicy hot sauce for eternal life. Some of these dragons have

colour changing wings; others don’t.

Habitat

High in the night sky, the mystical fire dragon flies around waiting for it’s prey to

attack. Even though they live in the sky flying around all night long, some people wonder

where they live during the day. Mystical fire dragons usually live in dark caves. Once they

see one they literally make it feel like it’s their own home. They eat whenever they feel like

it - Buildings, fences, people, goats, tables - are all examples of things that they will

probably eat. Moreover they will literally eat anything they see when their hungry.

Amazing Facts

These rare creatures have wide, sharp mouths which breath a toxic but also elegant smell.

The mystical fire dragon is best known for being one of the first dragons to breathe fire

and diamonds at the same time. Did you know that the mystical fire dragon is the only

dragon that can fly and breathe in space?

People have heard from dragonologists, that the mystical fire dragons made the whole of

Canada go on fire and the dragon turned everyone to gems and stones. Everyone right

now is terrified thinking that the mystical fire dragons might come back to do the same

thing or something way more worse. In short, we need to look out for what could be

coming for us cause we never know when their coming back.

I hope you all enjoyed this blog post!

The Sacrament of Marriage

For Religious Education room 5 and 6 have been learning about the mission of the Holy Spirit in the Catholic Church and in the world. We have been focusing on the different key ideas for it and we have already done key idea 1 which was the Holy Spirit prepares people for mission. And now we are on key idea 2 which is the Holy Spirit enables people to experience Christ through the sacraments. So first what we had to do was watch the video and then write in the summary notes and then pick of of the learning tasks and I picked the one where you just had to make a DLO about one sacrament and you had to answer several questions. You could also be in a group so I decided to be with two of my friends.

Me and my group decided to choose the sacrament of Marriage. We made a slideshow about it and put the different questions on the top and answered them in the bottom in paragraphs. Something I found difficult was trying to understand the questions cause some of the questions were really hard to understand so if I couldn't understand them I couldn't answer them so my group skipped some questions. Something I enjoyed was getting to learn more about marriage and teach others about it cause after we finished our DLO's about it we went back to the mat to share our ideas about the sacraments we chose.

Here is our DLO about Marriage:

An Important day in a life with St Bernadette

This week room 5 and 6 have been learning about St Bernadette cause this Friday is the feast of St Bernadette. What we had to do first was read information that was on a slideshow about Bernadette and then watch a whole 30 minute video about how St Bernadette saw Mary for the first time, and then after that there was another video about just some facts and pictures of St Bernadette. There was also another slideshow telling and teaching us more information about St Bernadette. What we had to do after the learning bit we had to fill out a sheet called a graphic organiser with a buddy. Then we had to create and journal entry about an important day in St Bernadette's life or make a newspaper article about you interviewing St Bernadette and talking to her about what she saw at the groto when she was 14 years old. I decided to do a journal entry so here it is:

Something I enjoyed was getting to create a journal entry about an important day on St Bernadette's life.
Something I found difficult was not really anything.
We also added some facts of Bernadette in the graphic organiser we made.

Easter Triduum

Hello everyone today I will be sharing out what room 5 and 6 has been doing in art and r.e. It is around lent time so we have been learning about the Easter Triduum. The Easter Triduum is the events heading towards Jesus' Death, for example Palm Sunday, the Last Supper and many more events. It is also holy week so we had to make a fan that showed two events that was leading up to Jesus' Death. I chose to do a sunset with the cross to represent Jesus' Death and I also did a tomb to represent His Resurrection. We also had to use pastels and cut them up into different strips so we could connect both papers on one big paper. When we sticked the different strips it made one picture show on one side and another on the other side so it would make a fan.

Something I enjoyed was coloring in and drawing the different events on the different papers and just making it in general.

Something I found difficult was sticking on the different papers onto the big one because I was kind of getting them mixed up but I did it at the end.

Here are the photos of my fan:

Kawa of Care

Today I learn about how to keep my Chromebook safe around it and when I'm on it. When we started school we had to sign a contract which had everything we need to know about keeping our Chromebook and ourselves and also others safe. So today I will be teaching you how to keep your own Chromebook safe. There is a lot of things that are involved in the Kawa of Care so I couldn't add everything that was on but I tried really hard to summaries it all.

So what we had to do was make a google drawing and summaries what was on the Kawa of care contract so here is mine:

Something I enjoyed was being able to teach you all on how to take care of your Chromebook
Something I will and you will probably find difficult is actually following the rules but we need to do this so we can make sure everyone is safe and so is our Chromebook

Oakley Creek l Reading

It has been quite a long time since i have posted something so today is the day I get to post! I hope you all had a great holiday. But today I would like to post about my reading so every week I will be posting about my reading. This week my group has been reading a story called Oakley Creek, Oakley Creek is a story about a girl called Faith lying to her mum and she is going with her friend Destiny to this place called Oakley Creek on a Saturday and she told her Mum that she is going to school. Then when she gets to Oakley Creek she gets caught by her Mum, brother and teacher. Some of you might really like this book. Stay tuned for next week for the book I read
