Come and Learn some Apostrophes!

WALT identify how to use apostrophes correctly.

My Teacher Mrs Lee has been noticing that in Room 5's writing we have been using Apostrophes wrong and that made me think maybe we should learn more about Apostrophes. My teacher Mrs Lee added an activity about Apostrophes and that's what we had to do if we finished are reading tasks or if we don't have any. The first activity was to watch a video that tells you all about Apostrophes, The next activity was that we had to do a sheet that was about Plurals, then another that was adding a plural and the next activity was basically the same but with different words. But the last activity was to make a poster about Apostrophes.

So I made a poster that can teach you about the top 3 Apostrophes that you would probably use a lot in your writing, so here is my poster:

From my poster I am going to ask you some questions and see if you can answer them:
Q1. Where can you use a Apostrophe for Contraction?
Q2. Which Apostrophe can be used for Letters that are single? How?
Q3. Show me an example for the apostrophe that marks for possession? (Don't copy mine.)
Q4. What have you learnt from my poster?

SEER Structure Writing

WALT write and Structure explanation writing.

In Ruma Rima we have been learning about how to Structure our explanation writing. First thing that we had to do is is talk about what we already know about Structure writing. We had a Student Teacher named Mr. Lee, and he taught us all about Structure writing. He told us to use SEER which stands for: (S) Starting Statement, (E) Explanation, (E) Example and (R) Relevance.

When you write a starting statement it is telling the person who is Reading your writing, that is what the explanation writing is about. So for example: It is important to brush your teeth. Then you are going to write about it. The explanation part is when you explain why it is important to brush your teeth. When you write the example you are like writing down like what would happened if you didn't brush your teeth and like what would happen if you did brush your teeth. The Relevance part is when you summaries what you just talked about.

So we wrote about a lot of things to help us practice with Structure explanation writing. So here is one of my writings that I used for Structure explanation writing:

Personal Hygiene is important. This is because we have to look after are bodies so we don’t get sick
and so our bodies will be clean and healthy. It can also help others around us clean and healthy too.
For example, by brushing out teeth our teeth can be healthy and clean and so no teeth will fall out and
there will be no cavities. We can also wash our hands to keep us clean because you need to think more
about what you touch every day and think if people have touched that too. It could share germs and
make you sick and that's not what you want, so it is important to wash your hands. It is also important to
keep our nails clean too so we need to cut them and make sure there is no dirty stuff in them, and also
try not to bite them because if you do your nails could have some germs and it will make you sick. It is
also important to keep your clothes clean but don’t buy new ones but like wash your clothes so they
won’t be stinky and dirty. But if you wear those types of clothes you will be stinky and dirty and so you
will need to take a bath. There are so many other things you need to do to keep your hygiene healthy
and clean, I hope you can continue to keep your hygiene clean
and healthy!

Something that I enjoyed was writing a Structure writing.
Something that I found difficult was highlighting the different SEER parts because at first that is what
we had to do and I had no idea what to do.
